Viva la Frida

The theme of one of my latest art swaps was to be inspired by Frida Kahlo. She was a surrealist  folk artist from Mexico City, who was born on July 6th. She had a volatile marriage to fellow artist Diego Rivera and suffered with many health problems, including infertility for the majority of her life. Her art is highly reflective of these two facts. This 4x6 post card is on its way to Colorado.

This project was a bit outside my comfort zone, as I don't normally go for unrealistic faces, nor use as many colors on one piece, but I ended up really enjoyed playing with the scale of the face.
