April Summary (...and a give away)

Link
Here's some snippets of a few projects I've been working on, one I recently wrapped up, and others I've just started.

As, I mentioned earlier this month (here), after I posted a doodle,"Bloom Where You are Planted", on Facebook B's aunt S. commissioned me to make an illustrated quote for her office. Since she now has is (and liked it, whoo hoo), I can talk about it!

This has been S.'s signature motto for years (she's in HR, so very apropos). Her only request was she wanted me to replace the doodle flower with hydrangeas. Of course I said yes. I spent some time over a few weeks doing studies and designing the layout. I narrowed it down to doing it by pencil or watercolor. I liked how the watercolor made the lettering "pop" more. While purple hydrangeas seem to be preferred by most people, the blue ones are my favorite... so I super imposed my likes on to her. Sorry, S.!

Almost forgot to snap a picture of the final product! I took this while we were packing it up for UPS (note the Styrofoam protective corners and light glare).

It's been a while since I've worked on a commission; it was kinda nerve racking! I was really anxious while it was in the mail, but it arrived safe and sound and I got the sweetest note from her.

The next couple of days after finishing a project are my favorite; nothing better to get those creative juices pumping. So when my girlfriend said she was wanting a tattoo, specifically a flower, I volunteered to work on some designs for her. She had not settled on a type of flower at this point, so I was playing around with hibiscuses.

Also been working on some cards; business cards, mother's day cards. Because I only have need for two mother's days cards, I thought I'd have a give-a-way for not one but two things:

"you are an awesome mom" is hand inked on a white 6" x 4 1/2" folder card, with a coordinating envelope liner
"my mommy rocks" is hand inked on a white 5 7/8" x 4" flat note care, with a
coordinating envelope liner

You can earn a chance to win by one of three ways:
1. leave a comment on this post on why your mommy rocks
2. start following my blog
3. share this post on facebook
I will do the drawing Sunday night, and will have the card in the mail to you as soon as I get your address!

Good luck!
